ITTA BENA, Miss. – After one of the biggest wins in recent history, Mississippi Valley State now turns its focus toward Prairie View A&M, who the Delta Devils will face Saturday at 2 p.m.

Predictably, the largest crowd of the season is expect to descend on Rice-Totten Stadium as Valley celebrates its homecoming following a 27-23 win over Jackson State last week.

MVSU (2-5, 2-4 SWAC) is hoping to keep its momentum going against a Panther team that has won two straight games, including a 34-24 win over Alabama State last week. Prior to their win over ASU, the Panthers defeated JSU, 48-30, in Jackson.

"They have good team speed and a quarterback that can make a lot of things happen and receivers that can catch the football," said MVSU head coach Rick Comegy. "So we have our hands full. It's not the normal homecoming where you have someone coming in that you know if you play well you can win it."

Last week marked the first conference win of the Comegy era at Valley and stopped a 19-game skid against JSU, a team that he coached for eight seasons. Now, with that out of the way, the MVSU coaching staff has spent this week preaching to the players to not let one game dictate the entire season.

"We have to make sure that we're prepared and not let one game say that the season is over," said Comegy. "We have to play throughout the season and not just for one football game."

A win wasn't the only good thing that came out of last week's game at JSU. MVSU coaches witnessed some progression from quarterback Quantavius Peterson and running back Jeremy Dobson.

Peterson, who replaced starter Patrick Ivy in the second half, threw the game-winning touchdown to Joshua Rice and rushed for 56 yards and a score. Meanwhile, Dobson, a redshirt sophomore from Byram, Miss., had a career-high 71 rushing yards and a touchdown. Dobson replaced an injured Jerrell Moore, who is still questionable for Saturday's game.

"He really jumped in there and learned the offense," said Comegy. "He's a talented running back and we're glad to have him."

MVSU's defense improving
Mississippi Valley State is currently ranked fourth in the SWAC in total defense, giving up 392.4 yards per game. MVSU has given up only a total of 43 points combined the last two games. Also, MVSU is ranked third in the SWAC in pass defense (185.1 ypg).

Stafford atop receiving ranks
MVSU redshirt senior Julian Stafford currently is tied for first in the conference in receptions (36). The Memphis native also leads the SWAC in receiving yards per game (84.3). He currently has 36 receptions for 590 yards and six TDs.
