ITTA BENA -- The countdown to the 2014 football season will get underway Sunday, Aug. 3 when the Mississippi Valley State football players report for preseason camp. A host of newcomers along with returning players will invade campus as MVSU players prep for their Aug. 30 season-opening game against the University of Faith.
The preseason camp is slated to last until Aug. 24 and the first practice is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 4 at 7:50 p.m. Media are invited to attend practice, but must first contact the MVSU Sports Information Office at 662-254-8378 or
kcmister@mvsu.edu.
This will mark the first season for the Delta Devils under new head coach Rick Comegy, who previously led Jackson State to back-to-back SWAC championship game appearances. Since taking over the program, Comegy and staff have
signed a nice crop of high school and junior college prospects. Playmakers will also be returning on both sides of the ball, including wide receiver/return specialist Julian Stafford and cornerback Avery Boykin.
