ITTA BENA – Mississippi Valley State Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach Ramon Flanigan will soon get a taste of the NFL.
Flanigan, who is in his third year at MVSU, will take part in the NFL’s Minority Coaching Fellowship Program during the Atlanta Falcons training camp.

“I am super excited about this opportunity,” Flanigan said. “This is a great way to get some exposure for our football program and to gain some knowledge that can be used to help us win some games.”

The former Southern Methodist University quarterback will take part in the program from July 23-31.

NFL head coaches Love Smith of the Chicago Bears, Pittsburgh’s Mike Tomlin and Cincinnati’s Marvin Lewis have all come through the fellowship.

The Minority Coaching Fellowship Program, which was named after the man who conceived the idea – late Pro Football Hall of Fame head coach Bill Wash – exposes talented minority college coaches to the methods and philosophies of summer NFL training camps. Walsh introduced the concept in 1987 when he brought a group of minority coaches into his San Francisco 49ers’ training camp. The program has mentored more than 1,500 minority coaches through the years, including Falcons Special Teams Coordinator Keith Armstrong.
